Capturing your child's first days, weeks, months and years with beautiful, timeless portraits that will still make you smile years from now.
You’d love to press pause on time, but you can’t. So here’s the next best thing. You’re nervous and excited, because you’re waiting for the little miracle you’ve created to put in an appearance.
Or, if your baby has already arrived, their first few weeks are whizzing by in a blur. You’re happy, overwhelmed and more tired than you thought was humanly possible.
I’m Karolina, a maternity, birth and newborn photographer based in Edinburgh.
I’ve worked with hundreds of parents just like you and I understand how you are feeling and how much you are treasuring every moment and every day with your new baby. I’m here to help you pause and capture a handful of beautiful, blink-and-you’ll-miss-them moments, so you’ll be able to remember them long after your sleepless nights are over.
Natural and effortlessly stylish photos
Clean, timeless and minimalistic is the best way to describe my work. Expect light, soft colours – a lot of whites, some pastels and greys. I only use soft, gentle materials and hand make little wraps and outfits that are gentle on your baby’s skin. I believe that the most beautiful photos aren’t about objects and effects, they are about people and relationships. My images show real emotions in a simple way. You know – even though they’re so young, your little ones already have their unique personalities! And I’ll get that across in the beautiful portraits I create for you.
Make yourself at home
I know that not everyone — whether they’re tiny or grown up — likes having their photo taken so it is really important to me that you and your family feel relaxed during our session. During the initial consultation I will listen to your hopes and wishes, explain what to expect, what you’ll need to have ready and what I will take care of and I will do my best to make you feel comfortable, relaxed and beautiful.
And on the day, you’ll be able to get comfy on the sofa in my warm and cosy home studio. If you book a newborn session, don’t worry if your baby isn’t quite ready when we start. We will take the time we need to get shots you’ll love. I have lots of tools and tricks up my sleeve (from colouring books for the older siblings and a nice cup of tea for the grown ups, to terrible jokes and endless variations on peek-a- boos), to make sure everyone’s feeling settled.
I hand make the accessories I use — headbands, hats, outfits and wraps for newborns and I personally source beautiful soft blankets and safe and comfortable baskets. I am genuinely interested in you, your story and your family, and I will give you all the care and attention you need.
My photography journey
When I was 14, I was walking home from school through the woodlands in Lithuania, where I am originally from. I heard a woodpecker close by and, when I found it, I thought, “I wish I had a camera so I could take a picture of this!”. But it flew away and the moment passed.
When I got home, I asked my dad if he’d lend me his Zenit (an old Russian camera) and teach me how to use it. Since then photography has always been part of my life.
Over the years, I’ve tried all kinds of photography – from weddings and birthday parties, to adventure and fashion.
But when I saw some of the gorgeous newborn portraits taken by the Australian photographer Kelly Brown, my heart melted and I immediately knew that capturing families is what I wanted to do. I have found my love and passion and now I get to capture the most precious moments and the most beautiful journeys like yours. What could be better than that?
